Silvertip Lodge

The blue boat house at Silvertip Lodge stands like a sleepy sentinel - alone, silent and listing to the side, yet ever watchful from its shoreline post.

Located in British Columbia, Canada, Silvertip Lodge is a remote escape which feels miles from civilization… because it is. In the winter, reaching this wilderness retreat is achievable only via a 40 minute helicopter ride from the town of Williams Lake. Once on site, out the front door guests overlook Quesnel Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Canada. And out back? The 3,000 meter peaks of the Cariboo Mountains, where Silvertip has permitted access to more than 355,000 acres of world class ski terrain.

“Everything I know,

I have learned from skiing powder”

With a lack of understanding or even words to describe “this experience of ‘nothing’ when powder skiing,” Dolores found a kinship with Chinese Taoism and the concept of wu wei, meaning “do nothing.” It was in this philosophy that Dolores would find the words for her powder skiing state: “‘The fullness of the void,’ out of which all things come.” She practiced meditation, chanting, Tai Chi and anything else that might compare to the nothingness of a powder turn. Ultimately, she came to realize that there simply was no comparison and no substitute.

Field Notes.

Silvertip is home to some of the best tree skiing I’ve ever witnessed. Forest fires passed through the area in 2017, and while they spared the lodge, they left acres of burned pines. These burn forests create a surreal and surprisingly spacious tree skiing experience.

The remoteness of Silvertip is hard to put into words. The meditative silence which cloaks the massive peaks evokes conscious feelings of insignificance, yet simultaneously gifting an understanding that one is part of something much greater than the individual self. Learn More.
