Cold Water is Good for the Soul.

There is a growing body of evidence to support cold water emersion as a practice to generate all kinds of physical and mental health benefits. I’m not sure if there are any scientific studies on the addition of blizzard conditions and 6 foot barreling waves into that equation, however I imagine it would prove to exponentially increase the benefits. I am certain that any official study would show elevated Froth levels of all participants. Furthermore I would anticipate a linear increase in the amount of time spent psyched to be directly correlated to time spent inside an icy tube.

Ice cream Headaches.

BRAIIIIN FREEEEEEEZE. Duck diving in December is like sucking down a blue raz big gulp from 7 eleven in 5 seconds flat. It leaves your frontal cortex feeling like a glacier which is somehow simultaneously infuriating and invigorating.

Field Notes.

Lido always seems to deliver when the rest of Long Island is a bit of a mess. I’m not sure exactly what it is about the sea bed here but perfect peaks seem to roll in one after the other time and time again.

There are some incredible surf photos that have been captured at Lido over the years. With each visit I work to improve my ability to convey the essence of this gem of East Coast surfing. I’ve yet to fully accomplish it and feel there is still much room for improvement both on the waves and behind the lens.
